The Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Wondering what all the fuss is about? Well apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been around for years and I am a huge fan of it. Yes, it may look like a urine sample (it really does) and it may not taste that great, but for many years I have championed it, and yet only now have certain health gurus got behind it, hence it's rise in popularity.

Why is apple cider vinegar popular?

On a personal level it did make me and my certain health ailments feel much better. I have also known many other highly sceptical people take it for some of the various medical problems below. They have had a successful outcome. Please do not get me wrong, it is not going to work for everyone. However, I often find many sceptics hard to deal with in the first place. It seems to be the case that they do not want it to work. Some people are not consistent either. This is the same for all health vitamins etc. Vitamins etc do take time to start working, so do not expect overnight miracles. I think there are many people out there (like myself), who do not wish to take a long list of pharmacy drugs to help simple issues. So for likeminded people, I think products like apple cider vinegar will be of interest.

What is the best type of apple cider vinegar to take?

I use the unpasteurised and naturally fermented variety, like the one made by Comvita in the photograph. You often find these types of ACV in health food stores. Unpasteurised is often described as "the mother" variety, and is reputed to have beneficial acids, which have additional health benefits.

So what is apple cider vinegar good for treating?

It is reputed to have many different health benefits such as-

Digestion - heartburn, indigestion and stomach acid

Colds & Flu - respiratory problems, sore throats and immune system boost.

Cholesterol & Diabetes - may help reduce cholesterol and lower blood sugars.

Beauty - hair and skin.

Arthritis and yeast infections

There are a lot of people who use ACV and say that it has helped with their symptoms. The list above is not a full list. People have suggested that ACV has assisted them with their aches and pains which have not been listed. So it may be worth a try to see if it helps you in any particular way. I would be interested to know how you get on!

Does it help with weight loss?

My weight does not yo-yo so I am not much help with providing a definitive answer. I know some of my friends have stated that they have lost weight through taking ACV. I am never too sure whether it is due to the ACV because at the same time, my friends will usually be exercising more and eating sensibly. So I would be interested to find out how the results would be, should they just use ACV alone, without exercise and eating well.

How do you take apple cider vinegar?

Never take it neat! This can damage your oesophagus and the enamel on your teeth. I mix 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, with 1 tbsp of honey and then add it into a glass of cooled boiled water. Then I drink.

When do you take it?

I take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and occasionally if say cold and flu symptoms flare up, I will take it again last thing at night.
